Russell Wilson
Personal Biography
Russell, his wife Kate, and sons Rusty and Billy live in Floresville, where Kate teaches High School English. His father, the late Billy E. Wilson, was in the real estate and oil and gas leasing business for many years. Russell's mother, Jennifer Wilson, owns the H & R Block office in Floresville.
Russell was born in San Antonio in 1966 and attended school in the East Central School District before moving to Stockdale in 1977. A 1984 graduate of Stockdale High School, Russell attended Texas Lutheran University in Seguin, where he wrote for the school paper, and graduated magna cum laude with a double major in History and Political Science, in 1988. At Texas Tech University School of Law, in Lubbock, Russell served on the Law Review, where he was Associate Editor from 1989-1991, and received the M.L. Penn Award for best researched paper in 1990. In 1991 Russell was awarded an American Jurisprudence award for Trial Advocacy.
Upon graduation from Law School, Russell worked for the civil law defense firm Clemens & Spencer in San Antonio. Other former attorneys of Clemens & Spencer include Emilio Garza, Justice of the United States Court of Appeals, for the Fifth Circuit, in New Orleans, and Phyllis Speedlin, Justice of the Texas 4th Court of Appeals in San Antonio. Russell also sought and obtained admission to practice law in the United States District Court, for the Western District of Texas, and the United States Court of Appeals, for the Fifth Circuit, in New Orleans.
In 1993 Russell returned to Wilson County and set up a law office. From 1994-95 the Commissioner's Court of Wilson County hired him as part time assistant County Attorney for the purpose of reducing the (then) backlog of DWI cases. In 1996 Russell ran for and won the office of Wilson County Attorney. Since late 1996 Russell has served as Wilson County Attorney, in addition to his private practice. Russell has been active in working with the Texas Legislature, and has spoken at seminars put on by the Texas District and County Attorneys Association. From 2003 to 2011 Russell served as a JAG Officer with the Texas State Guard, attaining the rank of Major.
